Hunter Valley is one of those places that I’ve talked about going but has never ended up going type of place. After exhausting just about every other tourist destination around Sydney, we’ve decided to give it a go. I guess I’ve always thought of wineries as being a ‘boring’ type of place to go, when you compare it to more interesting ones like beaches and mountains. Anyway, we really have run out of ideas anyway, so since Hunter Valley is so famous, we’ve decided to go and give it a shot.
Unexpectedly, it turned out to be a great day! We certainly didn’t start-off tasting wine. We started with ginger beer, followed by honey. We even tasted cheese later on. Of course, the best part is still wine. The sheer number of wine yards were just daunting. The annoying thing was that every wine yard seems to get better and better. We couldn’t help but end up buying a bottle of wine after each visit! Eventually we had to stop after visiting about 5 of them. They really are damn good at selling. Not to mention, I’m getting a little tipsy after trying so many.

Ogishi Craft Center was also an unexpected highlight. It showcases the artwork of a Japanese lady which has been there for years! Everything is glass there, and some of those stuff were definitely impressive. And then there was the Hunter Valley Gardens which we didn’t visit (’cause we thought it was a bit expensive). And a lot of little boutique shops that sell all kinds of unique artworks etc etc.

By the end of the day, I was definitely more knowledgeable about wine than I did before the start of the day. I am seriously considering coming back here one day to take time to really explore the place. One day here is definitely not enough, and we probably only covered a very small part of the area.
